Research Interest

In my research, I deal with the question of how virtual and real experiments can be combined in a didactically meaningful way in science lessons, especially in physics classes. This topic is located at the interface of Didactics of Physics and Learning with Multiple Representations. I focus on the potentials of digital media to take advantage of e.g., the possibilities of using different representations (making abstract objects visible in virtual experiments) during inquiry learning in physics classes. Combinations of hands-on experiments and virtual experiments seem to be especially helpful for gaining conceptual knowledge and inquiry skills (Kapici & de Jong, 2019). They, however, only become effective for learning if different learning opportunities are coordinated (orchestrated) in such a way that they simultaneously support and cognitively activate learners. I will investigate how the use of digital media can be designed and orchestrated in the context of inquiry learning by developing and evaluating a digital teaching concept. The aim is to implement and evaluate this concept in schools in the long term.

As an associated member of the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network, I can benefit a lot from its interdisciplinary structure. To me, especially the discussions with other researchers of the network are inspiring. There is a lot of expertise and experience shared from which I can profit for my project. Also, the seminars and workshops deal with highly interesting topics and we get one-to-one methodological support and advice if required. Also the LEAD School network is helpful, because I can get in contact with a lot of schools for my studies quite easily.
