16:15 Keynote Lecture 'Strategic Career Planning for Postdocs'

Postdoc – and what’s next? Should I stay in academia, or what other options do I have? What are my competencies and my goals? How can I find a job that suits me?

Young researchers often have many questions when it comes to planning their next career steps. They are not sure which career options exist, and they often have never taken the time to reflect on what kind of work they would actually like to do, and what their values, interests and goals are. In this interactive keynote, Dr. Iris Köhler will discuss the most common questions and share helpful career planning strategies & best practices with you.

About

Dr. Iris Köhler is a certified career coach & trainer and experienced scientist. She studied agricultural sciences at the Technische Universität München and received her doctorate there in 2013. After a postdoctoral stay in the United States (2014 - 2016), she switched to science management and coordinated the graduate school of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig (2017-2019). In 2018 she founded her own coaching and training company "The Scientist Coach”. She knows the challenges that young researchers are facing when it comes to career planning and enjoys helping them to develop their own career path - in or outside academia.

Dr. Köhler will stay at the information market after the keynote lecture and will be around for questions and discussion.
