FFP2 masks at the University

President's circular to all students and employees (except Medicine)

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science issued a new Coronavirus ordinance on Wednesday (Jan. 12), in particular due to the increased spread of the Omicron variant. The new regulations make it mandatory to wear an FFP2 mask for all study activities at the University. In concrete terms, this means that, with immediate effect, a mask of protection class FFP2 or a comparable standard (e.g. KN95, N95, KF 94, KF 99, etc.) must be worn in all rooms used for study and teaching. This applies to lecture halls and seminar rooms, libraries, student study spaces as well as student counseling facilities, etc.

As before, the obligation to wear a mask applies at the warning and alarm level as well as at alarm level II, even if a minimum distance of 1.5 meters from other persons can be reliably maintained. Participants in an examination are exempt from the obligation to wear a medical mask or FFP2 mask (or comparable protection). Teachers and other lecturers in courses may remove the mask in accordance with the University's hygiene concept (Part A.) – provided they maintain a safety distance of three meters from all other participants.

In all areas of the University that are not directly used for study activities, the previous regulation remains in effect, i.e. wearing a simple medical mask is sufficient.

University employees who are engaged in classroom teaching or who otherwise participate directly in study activities can get FFP2 masks from the University. To order your mask, send the application (including the filled-out supplementary form) to purchasing (zentrales Universitätslager). To speed up delivery, orders should be made collectively at the faculty or large institution level, if possible. With kind regards and best wishes for your health,
