Vaccination of university lectures and teaching staff

Circular to all employees

Dear colleagues,

As you know, the Federal Ministry of Health has determined which sections of the population in Germany should be vaccinated against Covid-19 first, based on the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO). These include, above all, the very elderly, people with serious pre-existing conditions, and members of occupational groups with a significantly increased risk of infection. University lecturers and teaching staff are clearly not among these occupational groups with regard to their work at the university. This clearly follows from the information provided by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs.
https://sozialministerium.baden-wuerttemberg.de/de/gesundheit-pflege/gesundheitsschutz/infektionsschutz-hygiene/informationen-zu-coronavirus/impfberechtigt-bw/

This state of affairs has recently been confirmed again by Minister of Science Theresia Bauer to the State Rectors' Conference. Against this background, I would like to point out that the university's Human Resources section is instructed not to issue employer certificates for university lectures and teaching staff that are intended for presentation to a state vaccination center or other institutions that perform vaccinations.

Best regards,

Professor Dr. Bernd Engler
President
