Workshop on Scientific Writing Tips

...read what IGIM PhD student Janette is reporting from the workshop

On November 19th 2021 the IGIM organized a workshop on “Scientific Writing Tips” held by Libera Lo Presti, a former editor of Nature Microbiology and now employed as Scientific Writer at the University of Tübingen. During the workshop we were provided with general tips on how to structure and write a paper and also where and how to submit it. In addition, each participant prepared an abstract in advance, which then was collectively reviewed and discussed. This provided a hands-on learning experience where everyone was able to learn from their own mistakes and profit from a direct peer review as well as from Liberas experience and knowledge. Moreover, Libera put in a lot of effort beforehand to understand and improve all abstracts and everyone received a revised version of their abstract at the end of the workshop. Overall, all participants had a comprehensive, constructive and very positive learning experience, especially since Libera made sure to present her corrections and critique at all times in an honest but very kind way. This ensured everyone that it’s only about learning and improving your skills.

Whether you need some tips for a publication you’re working on at the moment or are just looking for some general pointers on how to write a scientific text, I highly recommend you to participate in this course.
