Admission procedure

Selection criteria

We will offer a total of at least 35 places to the highest scoring applicants per year (spring+fall selection). Typically the fall intake is larger than the spring one. Depending on the quality of the applications, we may offer more than the minimum number of places.

Written exam

A written English examination in basic biochemistry will be held twice a year in Tübingen. Participation in the written exam is recommended but you can apply relying only on your bachelor grade & CV, which means you can score a maximum of 45 points out of 65. You can repeat the exam once; the best grade counts. Results can then be used for your application at any time. If you want to take part, please send an empty email with the subject text entrance exam to admissionspam no later then 1 week before the exam date. This will automatically register you for the exam. The test takes place on the Friday closest to the deadline at 2pm in one of the 2 lecture halls of the IFIB, if not otherwise mentioned. Bring identification and a calculator.

If you apply from abroad and cannot attend the entrance test held in Tübingen, Germany, then the next best thing is to submit the GRE Biochemistry subject test, organized in most countries of the world, along with your application. See also the FAQs.

CV points

We will give up to 5 additional points for the following items based on your CV: stipends and prizes, peer-reviewed publications, international study or related work experience of at least 6 months. Please provide the necessary documents for us to verify these achievements.
