Das Center for Korean Studies der Universität Tübingen lädt Sie herzlichst zur Lesung mit dem südkoreanischen Autor CHO Kwanghee ein. CHO‘s dystopischer Roman Human Court (in deutscher Übersetzung erschienen beim Hanl Verlag), beschäftigt sich mit der hochaktuellen Thematik von künstlicher Intelligenz und den ethischen Fragen, welche die neuesten technologischen Entwicklungen für die menschliche Gesellschaft aufwerfen. Im Anschluss an die Lesung und Diskussion mit dem Autor folgt ein Vortrag von Joseph LEE (CEO, KL-Management) zur globalen Entwicklung des koreanischen Buchmarkts. Der erste Teil der Veranstaltung findet zweisprachig auf Deutsch und Koreanisch statt, im zweiten Teil trägt Joseph LEE auf Englisch vor. Gefördert wird die Veranstaltung vom Literature Translation Institute Korea. Wir freuen uns auf alle Freund*innen der koreanischen Literatur und natürlich auch auf die, die es noch werden wollen.

튀빙겐 대학교 한국학연구소가 조광희 작가와의 낭독회에 여러분을 초대합니다. 낭독 작품인 조 작가의 디스토피아 소설 „인간의 법정“ (Human Court, Hanl Verlag)은 인공지능을 소재로 첨단 과학의 발전이 인간 사회에 던지는 윤리적 질문들을 다룹니다. 작가와의 낭독회 및 토론에 이어 한국문학을 해외에 알리는 데 선봉장 역할을 해 온 KL 매니지먼트의 조셉 리 대표가 ‚한국 문학 시장의 세계적 발전‘이라는 주제로 영어 강연을 합니다. 작가와의 낭독회 및 토론은 독일어와 한국어 두 언어로 진행될 예정입니다. 한국문학번역원의 지원으로 열리는 위 행사에 한국 문학을 사랑하시는 분들의 많은 참여 부탁드립니다.

The Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) is pleased to announce "The 34th & 35th AKS Summer Program for International Students".

As an important part of our mission is to cultivate young leaders, who can contribute to the development of Korean studies, the academy has organized an intensive summer program for international undergraduate students in Korean studies. This program is composed of various components, such as special lectures on Korea, intensive Korean language course, field trips, excursions, and traditional cultural activities. Since its starting in 1993, we held the program for 33 times and 940 students from over 70 countries attended the program.
 
In 2021 and 2022, in light of the COVID-19 situation, AKS Summer Program was conducted online.
In 2023, since the pandemic situation improves, the program will be conducted in person.

If you want to participate in AKS Summer Program for International Students that will be held twice during summer vacation, please refer to the following and apply.

Program Period

• The 34th: July 3 (Mon) ∼ July 21 (Fri), 2023 (3 weeks)
• The 35th: August 7 (Mon) ∼ August 25 (Fri), 2023 (3 weeks)

※ Please choose one that is more convenient for you. You CANNOT select both.

Language of the Program: Korean

※ The participants are recommended to possess basic Korean language skills.

Eligibility and Required Documents

• Eligibility

Undergraduate students of second year or above from universities abroad who are majoring or minoring in Korean Studies and/or those who took Korea-related courses from their universities.
※ Those who are in graduate school or hold Korean nationality are not eligible for this program.
※ For those who took Korea related courses, the course names should be specified in the transcript.
※ If applicant’s university does not offer Korean Studies major or Korea-related courses, Korean language institute certificate can be substituted for university transcript.

Notification of the Acceptance

Financial Support

• The Academy of Korean Studies will cover the cost of registration, lectures, accommodations, and meals during the program as well as expenses incurred during field trips and excursions.

※ All participants are responsible for their own travel expenses including the round-trip airfare, transportation fee between airport and AKS and medical insurance.

Obituary: Dieter Eikemeier (1934-2022)

Dieter Eikemeier died after a long illness on Dec. 19, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife, Martha, on November 23, 2022, and is survived by two sons.

After receiving his post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) in 1976 at Ruhr University Bochum where Bruno Lewin had established the study of Korea a decade earlier, he became the first professor of Korean Studies at Tuebingen University in 1979 and thus the first full professor of Korean Studies in then West Germany. He retired from this post in 2003.

He was one of the founders of the Association of Korean Studies (AKSE) in 1977 and later was made an honorary member.

He is the author of :

Elemente im Politischen Denken des Yǒn’am Pak Chiwǒn (1737-1805): Ein Beitrag zur Geschichte der kulturellen Beziehungen zwischen China und Korea. Leiden: E.J. Brill, 1970.

and

Documents from Changjwa-ri. A Further Approach to the Analysis of Korean Villages. Veroeffentlichung des Ostasien-Instituts der Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum vol. 25, Wiesbaden: Harrassowitz, 1980.

He also authored a large number of articles on varied topics of Korean studies. During his later years, his attention was focused on what he called the “common religion” of Korea. With the passing of Dieter Eikemeier, the Korean Studies community has lost one of its distinguished members.
