Kurzportrait

Youngeun Koo is a PhD candidate in Korean Studies at Tübingen University. Her thesis examines the development of intercountry adoption from South Korea between 1961 and 1979, drawing on archival materials and oral histories collected from South Korea, Sweden, Denmark and the USA. She holds an MSc in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford and a BA in History Education from Korea University. Her research interests include intercountry adoption, family and “children in need”; welfare, the state and the voluntary sector; mobility, migration and transnationalism; questions of belonging and identity. At Tübingen, she also convenes BA courses on Korean migration and social welfare.
