Englisches Seminar

Meet the Student Assistants

Marc Stoyanopoulos was born in Bad Urach and raised in Reutlingen. Through an early membership in a choir, he spent the last 15 years of his life abroad and got a glimpse of how advantageous it can be to communicate in English. After having completed his Abitur in media technology, he started studying English and history for a teaching degree. While doing a seminar in linguistics, the scientific study of speech sparked his interest. He then started working as a tutor and research assistant at Lehrstuhl Weber. He is planning to go abroad during his studies since he is very passionate about broadening his knowledge in the field of English language and culture. In his spare time, he likes to work out as much as possible, eat plenty of food and spend a lot of time with his friends and colleagues in Tübingen. He also has a great passion for music: He sings in a choir, plays the piano and electric guitar.

Christiana Chaidaridou was born in Germany and raised in Greece before moving back to Germany, where she attained her bilingual Abitur degree. She then visited Japan for two months, allowing her to enhance, among others, her language skills in Japanese. Following that, she completed her undergraduate degree in English and American Studies and Classical Greek Philology in Tübingen. Her quadrilingual experiences over the past years reflect her interest in the functions of language as well as its diverse yet universal nature, particularly in terms of second language acquisition and cross-linguistic research. The spark of her interest in linguistics, however, was really ignited during her undergraduate studies, where she was exposed to the wide spectrum of English syntax analysis and phonology. By the end of her studies, her interest became multidirectional, making her eager to expand on her linguistic knowledge by starting her MA studies in English Linguistics. Aside from her studies, Christiana likes writing poems, watching movies, going hiking, and spending time in nature.

Elvan Doğan was born in Stuttgart. After having completed her Abitur,  she lived seven months in Canada, working as an Au pair. Having spent her time in Canada during the outbreak of the pandemic, she spent her time tutoring the kids while trying to get to know the Canadian culture and its people, as well as finding her passion in hiking. Having always had an interest in the English language while also having lived abroad, she later decided to pursue her studies in English and broaden her knowledge. In her spare time, she enjoys going out for walks, reading books, and writing.

Wenyi Chen was born in China and moved to Germany in 2020 to pursue her bachelor's degree. She has always been fascinated by the role languages play in cross-cultural communication. A seminar on second language processing piqued her interest in psycholinguistics, especially the research on bilingual children. She believes it is crucial to support children with multilingual backgrounds in order to ensure equal opportunities in the education system. She would also like to gain a better understanding of bilingualism to answer questions like "what are the gaps between advanced language learners and native speakers?". In her spare time, she enjoys going to the theatre and traveling.
