Trip
to Staatsgalerie
"Learn
to look outside the box" That was the the lesson learnt at
the begining of the day. Today was all about Art. The morning was
spent discussing modern art and then creating our own "masterpieces".
Like the artists we learnt about, some some of us (myself inclüded)
felt that our art was way beyond our time!!! The fun really began
when we left Tubigen and travelled ttio Stuttgart! A town filled
with buzzing streets, beautiful architecture, and of course home
to the famous Staats-galerie. Because of the mornings seminar, one
could say that we were all in feeling very "artsie". Bursting
with excitement, our rowdy groups first stop was the galery. The
building itself was an artwork. It can be described as a combination
of elements from the past as well as post modern. The bricks used
for the walls were of particular interest!! Upon entering the galery,
oür groüp caused quite a strir. With all the attention
from other visitors to the galery, we sometimes felt like we were
on display. The most amazing thing personally, was the oppertunity
to se upclose the artworks that we had just learnt about in the
morning. During the morning art class we chose artworks that we
later had to discuss with the rest of the group at the galery. The
artwork that i discussed was called the "kreuzigung"(
the crucification), by Joseph Beuys. It was not the usual paint
on canvas work, but rather a symbolic mix of everyday items including
wood, bottles and electrical cables. Another highlight of the galery
was when we nearly trip over a lifelike wax model assuming it was
a real cleaning lady on the floor. After the galery, I got to do
what I do best.... SHOPPING!!! Thats right, we stood there welling
with excitement as we stared down a street lined with uninterrupted
stores. There was everything and anything Hugo Boss, Dieseland Gucci!!
Due to time constraints, for most of us it was like running a marathon,
hurdling through the buzzing streets of Stuttgart. By nightefall
we were all bushed. We took the evening train back to Tubigen. Fighting
the sleepiness on the ride back, we all reflected on the day excitedly.
