Entertainment in Tübingen

To give you a South Africans an idea of what Tubingen is like just think “Grahamstown”.

It is a students town with the basic ammenities, such as malls, cinemas and restaurants. I’m sure that most of you, like myself are interested in the nightlife. Coming from Durban, the city that never sleeps and party capital of South Africa (this will be debated I’m sure ! ), I was unsure as to what to expect. But I managed to find some good parties in the strangest of places! Let me share with you a few of the highlights:

At the centre of the student residence is a building which houses the entertainment. During the first week my friends, tour leader and I frequented a bar called “Cuck – Cucks” or as referred to by my floormate “a hole”. The best thing about this bar is that they only play rock! So I was in a state of Utopia when they played Zeppelins, “Stairway to Heaven” followed by Oaisis’s “Wonderwall”. Enough about that. Upstairs is a restaurant called “The Joker” which has a friendly Greek bartender by the name of Nico, who serves great pizza. The Joker has parties every second Thursday, they play a lot of Hip-Hop and have a dancefloor.

In the same building on a Friday two rooms were converted into a party area for what was labelled “The Dentist Party”. As odd as it sounds we had a fabulous time with our Lithuanian and Brazilian floormates. I have saved the best for last. Something very common in the W.H.O is the floor parties, which are held in, wait for it…. The Kitchen ! My fellow South Africans and I had many “Happy Nights”. So I just want to send a shout out to all the people in building 15 floor 10 viz: Raimondas, Edgaras, Alan, Marcia and everyone else I have forgotten for the WUNDERFANTASUPERSONIC time!
