Report: Tour to DIgSILENT
On the 24th of January 2012 we were fortunate enough to visit the company called DIgSilent. We were welcomed by Peter, a fellow South African, with a great spread of eats and drinks which we were all delighted about.
Peter was then joined by the CEO of the company, Markus, who gave us in-depth insight into the operations of DIgSilent. DIgSILENT is an extremely innovative company as it is the leading developer of the software involved in the analysis of many country’s entire power system. This involves power transmission, distribution and generation as well renewable energy such as solar, wind and smart grids. The company has strong ties with South Africa and has a branch in Midrand which does the analysis for the entire Eskom Grid.
It was really great to see someone so passionate about the work that they do and throughout the seminar Markus answered all of our questions in detail. DIgSILENT greatly interested the South African group in terms of how involved they are in renewable energy and what they do for the environment as a whole.
Peter then explained the advantages and disadvantages of living in Germany to us from a South African perspective which was rather enlightening for the group. After which we sat done for a wonderful lunch and then said our goodbyes at the end of a thoroughly insightful day.
