Report
about German History
by
Collen Thipa Selala
To
start with, History has for no reason been my desired subject
at primary and secondary, nevertheless my short stay in Germany
saw me falling in love with this area under discussion for the
first instant in time. If ever there is a moment that I should
consider to be my highlight since I come to Germany, then off
course, a class in relation to German History would be one on
my first inclinations from the list of my items thanks to Stefan
Anders as well as the organisers.
The seminar
was facilitated by Stefan Anders, who captivated our concentration
by circulating European and chiefly German maps, screening videos
to make it trouble-free for us to understand what the he was talking
about. The class atmosphere was calm - which indicates that everyone
was awfully paying special attention.
Understanding
German in just 90 minutes wasn't an easy thing. Let me take you
through some of the highlights that I learned in that class because
der Unterricht hat mir die Augen geöffnet (the lesson has
opened my eyes).
The early
history of Germany states that some of the countries were well
thought-out to be part of Germany, e.g. the French city, Strasbourg,
and a part of Poland were part of the German Emperor. It makes
sense to distinguish German history into three Emperors: the first
Empire was set up in 800 and the second in 1870/71 - 1918 were
Roman-German Empire and German Empire correspondingly. The third
Empire existed in 1933 - 1945. The Holy Roman Empire was an attempt
to breathe new life into the Western Roman Empire; however the
empire and the imperial office did not become made official for
some decades.
In January
1919, a National Assembly was nominated to rough copy a charter.
The government, composed of members from the assembly, came to
be called the Weimar coalition and built-in the SPD; the German
Democratic Party (Deutsche Demokratische Partei--DDP), a successor
of the Progressive Party of the pre-war period; and the Center
Party.
Propaganda
was a big question assorted with patriotism and superiority and
there were also enormous economic problems. Hitler rapidly changed
the Weimar Republic into a tyranny. On May 8, 1945, the German
folks were all of a sudden tackled by a situation never before
experienced in their history: the whole German territory was occupied
by foreign armies. GDR border police opened Berlin Wall on the
9th November 1989.
Zu der
Einsicht kommen, (to come to the conclusion) I never liked History,
but from now on I am a bit familiar with it. People, never be
afraid of things that you were just that they are difficulf, because
I was just told that it is no good to learn about History - peer
pressure. Strive and fall short but never fail to try.
