Folkdance and Folksong 2008

What an experience!!

When the evening began, some of us actually thought that the two ladies were going to do the dances, little did we know that they were there to teach us the folk dances. Some were a bit sceptical about doing the folk dance.
Elisabeth Diesner, our folk dance instructor, first introduced the first dance of the day the Happy Circle. Dancing has never been a strong ability of mine, so I was excited when I could do the Happy Circle with such ease, the whole group was buzing with excitement and energy, but little did we know that it was a prelude to bigger, beautiful but trickier sequences to come.
Then came the different polka dances which proved to be more intensive than the Happy Circle. We found ourselves twirling around the hall, bumping into each other a few times, that was the most fun we had that day until 30 minutes later when we were huffing and puffing, showing how unfit the whole group was. But we got our breaths back when we sat down and Elisabeth showed us the traditional costumes in which 3 people got to try them on, and at this point all cameras we flashing, they looked fabulous.
The second part of the evening was dedicated to the singing of the folk songs, Waltraud Ruegenberg taught us 2 beautiful songs, one about snowflakes and the other was sung when craftsmen left their homes. Every one had such joy in their hearts, so much so that some had forgotten they were close to collapsing just moments earlier. Thanks everybody for the experience.
