Tübingen South Africa Program 2009

Reception at the City Hall
Mr. Boris Palmer - Mayor of Tübingen

A Pretzel and a Drink with the Mayor
A report written by Nothando Ndlovu

When I chose to report on this particular event I had sketched my own picture of how the mayor should appear as well as how formal meeting him should be. My prediction or should I say my wild imagination of the whole event was similar to those you see in movies which show a feature of the royal family.
I corrected myself "For goodness sake he is not the inkosi(king). He is just like the mayor of Durban Orbed Mlaba!" I thought to myself even though he did not belong to the royal family he has many duties to perfom here in Tubingen. While standing outside the eyecatching city hall Barbara uttered,"The mayor just went past". I simply wanted to ask if she was not playing tricks on me. When Sir Boris Palmer came towards us i thought that he looked rather gorgeous and young for a mayor. He was the total opposite of what I had imagined. Judging from his speech though I could make out that he was capable of serving Tübingen better than I can imagine.
Since this day I have been inspired to believe that it doesn't have to take you half a lifetime before you achieve your ultimate dream. It was interesting as well as a priveledge to meet such an important, humble person. It was more of a thrill though to watch his face melt over the harmonious melody of the South African Click Song. This day was absolutely amazing. I will treasure it for as long as I live. I feel quiet special to meet such a Very Important Person (V.I.P).
