Report: "Dance
Evening" by Nasiphi Sobahle
Oh...where do I begin...its true what has always been said..."time
flies when you are having FUN",and before we knew it...the dance
evening had come to an end.
it was a Friday evening (15 January 2010)...after a long day at
the CHT Factory and most people were exhausted from the walking
that we done exploring the company and the delicious lunch of course, but
we still had the dance evening to attend at 20:00 and I must say
that most of us were excited and looking forward to it!
We arrived at our usual venue (ADAF Building) as exhausted as we
were...but still eager to learn and with the mindset that we want
to enjoy that evening with Philina and what she had to teach us.
it all seemed difficult in the begining but as we went through the
dance moves together...it did not seem as difficult as we thought
it would be...but i must say that this kind of dance (Latin and
Ballroom) is not one of the easiest dances one could just get up
one day and decide that they can do it, it requires time, a lot
of time, time practising the dance moves and getting them right,it
requires patience and therefore one has to have a teacher with good
understanding as well as patience and Philina had all these qualities.
we basically learnt 3 types of dances (Salsa,Walz and the Cha cha)
and i must outline that my favourite was the Cha Cha, reason being
is that... Cha Cha is energetic with a steady beat,it incoporates
footwork and hip movement, it is a happy,party-time-like,carefree
dance...which just basically describes me and in so doing brings
out the best in me as an individual. I interviewed some people after
the dance evening,i asked them how did they find the evening and
to my suprise...everyone was over joyed and excited about it! I
also had a fantabulous evening as dancing happens to be something
that I love...something that i'm passionate about. we ended the
evening by teaching everyone our African dances such as th gumboot
dance, which also requires time, they loved it but then again...the
gumboot dance needs time to be practised, its not an easy dance at
all.it is a bit complicated in a sense.we also tried teaching everyone
our favourite dance "The Zupepe" which requires alot of energy and
a bit of flexibility.
i have said too much and far beyond much and therefore this brings
me to my conclusion...dancing has never been everyones favourite
thing to do but after Friday evening... everyone had a good time
"dancing"... I then suppose that this goes back to who teaches you
the dance moves, that teacher has to have some motivation that motivates
you to learn the dance and i must say that Philina did her utmost
best in making sure that we enjoyed the dance evening with her...last
but not least, whats a dance evening without drinks and snacks...
All thanks to Philina and her dance partner as well as Barbara for
making this night possible for us and everyone enjoyed it...
much love...
