Tübingen South Africa Program 2011

Welcome Day in Tübingen

Arriving in Tubingen after an approximately 2 hour drive from the Frankfurt Airport , we were totally mesmerized by the beauty of this small university town and none of us really knew what we were to expect on this 4-week once-in-a-lifetime trip. Upon arrival we were welcomed by one of the most friendliest person I have ever met in my life thus far , Barbara Owen whose warmth surpassed the cold German weather we were experiencing in that moment. With the help of Barbara and her 2 amazing assistants Tom and Philina , we were assisted in settling in and were allocated to our rooms situated in different dormitories in Fichtenweg. Later that evening we were treated to a sumptuous dinner at a local restaurant called Faros. The next day was our official welcome and we were treated to a breakfast snack at ADAF , we were also given full study material to help us during our seminars and other essential items such as a bus ticket for a month , internet access card , meal card and 50 Euros each of which was a HUGE surprise to us all ( thank you Barbara ). Later Barbara took us to a room which was stocked with winter clothes to suit all ages and sizes and we were able to choose whatever we liked and afterwards we went on a city tour with Tom in which we were able to observe the beauty and tranquility of Tuebingen. To round off the day we all met in Bonhoeffer where we were to prepare a traditional Swabian dish known as Kasspatzle , the significance of making this mouth-watering dish is the fact that it brought us all together and we were able to learn about one another and it was FUN. A big thank you to Barbara , Tom and Philina for warmly receiving us not only to their country but also to their hearts and for this opportunity and to the 2011 Tuebingen-South Africa Program participants a BIG-UP to all of us for breaking barriers and representing our country with pride. Long live the Tubingen-South Africa Program.

With Love
