Kathleen Stürmer ist Professorin für effektive Lehr- und Lernarrangements am Hector-Institut für Empirische Bildungsforschung sowie der Tübingen School of Education (TüSE).

Kathleen Stürmer ist Autorin zahlreicher Zeitschriftenartikel und Buchbeiträge. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte drücken sich in einer Serie von Forschungsprojekten aus, die u.a. von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) gefördert werden. Sie ist Mitglied der DFG-Forschergruppe Cosima (Förderung von Diagnosekompetenzen in simulationsbasierten Lernumgebungen an der Hochschule FOR 2385),  des Steering Boards des Forschungsverbunds zwischen Hector-Institut und dem Leibnitz-Institut für Wissensmedien zur lernwirksamen Nutzung von Tablets im Unterricht, der an den Schulversuch tabletBW des Landes Baden-Württemberg angelehnt ist, sowie des EARLI Center for Excellence in Research (E-CER) „Teacher Professional Vision: Toward Theoretical, Methodological, and Educational Synergy “.
Kathleen Stürmer ist stellvertretende Direktorin der Tübingen School of Education . Darüber hinaus ist sie Mitglied mehrerer wissenschaftlichen Beiräte im Bereich der Empirischen Bildungsforschung, wie zum Beispiel dem Zentrum für Forschung und Transfer: Digitalisierung in der Lehrerbildung (TüDiLB) und dem Institut für Ökonomische Bildung.
