The range of courses is divided into three subject areas, from which students can choose one as their area of specialization:

Alternatively, students can complete their studies without specialization.
For prospective students with a geoscientific background and a special interest in hydrogeology / environmental geosciences the Master's program Applied & Environmental Geoscience (AEG) would be the appropriate study program.
The Master's programme in Geosciences at the University of Tübingen is strongly research-oriented. This is guaranteed by the modules "Scientific Work 1 & 2", "Scientific Presentation" and the Master's thesis.

These excellent research activities and contacts enable students to get to know the wealth of geoscientific research ranging from Applied Geology and Mineralogy, Structural Geology, Petrology, Geochemistry, Geophysics to Micro- and Vertebrate Palaeontology and Biogeology.
The Master's programme "Geosciences" is aimed at advanced students who wish to supplement and deepen the knowledge they have acquired in a geoscientifically oriented Bachelor's programme. The research-oriented degree programme is intended to enable students to establish contact with top-level research on a national and international level both in the field of classical basic sciences and applied geodisciplines. This includes a critical examination of goals, contents, planning and application, but also the problems of research, as well as a correspondingly high scientific level. In a first step, planning, terrain and laboratory methods are independently developed and applied under guidance in a second step.
The University of Tübingen offers the largest variety of geoscientific subjects in Germany and therefore allows students, like no other location, to get to know the wealth of geoscientific research from applied geology and applied mineralogy to palaeontology, structural geology, petrology geochemistry, geophysics, biogeology, physical geography as well as ancient prehistory and natural scientific archaeology - to name just a few.
In line with the breadth of the Master's programme, the career prospects that result from this are broadly diversified. A permanent intensive cooperation and collaboration of numerous working groups with the industry enables the students to have a successful start in their professional life as valuable contacts can already be made during the studies.
Through the special integrative working methods of the geosciences and the well-founded education in subject-specific contents, core competences and key qualifications, the students are also in the best position to work interdisciplinary. This ability makes them just as attractive for their own specialist questions as for general fields of activity.
