Kurzportrait

Youngeun Koo is a PhD candidate in Korean Studies at the University of Tübingen, with over seven years of research on the topic of transnational South Korean adoption. She has disciplinary backgrounds in history and anthropology, and her primary research and teaching foci lie in transnational adoption, modern and Cold War Korea, the intersection of international development and social welfare in the “Third World”, and Korea-Scandinavia relations. Her PhD dissertation examines the historical development of international adoption from South Korea between 1961 and 1979, drawing on multi-archival and diverse-site research carried out in six countries including South Korea, Sweden, Denmark and the United States. As a Research Associate at Tübingen, she has also taught courses on Korean society, culture and history.
