Managers operating in today’s global environment must be prepared to quickly react to changing business and market conditions, competitors’ actions, and internal governance problems. This calls for a systematic analysis of strategic interaction, comprehensive decision-making processes, and flexible adaptation strategies. The M.Sc. Management & Economics offers a unique education by combining state-of-the-art management tools with game-theoretic concepts.

The courses offered in the program deal with the strategic behavior of competing firms and focus on implementing management tools within the firms to provide an informational basis for successful business strategies. Moreover, the program gives students extensive insights in the fields of managerial economics, personnel economics, and industrial organization.

Students of this program develop a unique set of analytical and professional skills grounded in advanced methods of game theory and principal-agent-theory. Graduating from this program, you will be able to select appropriate performance measures, design efficient incentive systems, and develop strategies to build up and maintain the human capital needed in the firm.

Admission is subject to a competitive selection procedure that includes individual interviews with faculty members. Shortlisted candidates from overseas will be interviewed in a video conference via Skype.

Application deadline: 15 May.
Interviews with shortlisted applicants are scheduled for mid-June.
Letters of admission will be sent out by late June - early July.

Admission to the M. Sc. in Management and Economics requires a Bachelor’s degree in Economics or Business Administration with excellent grades. Applicants are expected to have solid intermediate level knowledge in quantitative methods of economics and microeconomic theory. In addition, applicants must be fluent in English. Students entering with a 3-year Bachelor’s degree (amounting to 180 ECTS credits) are required to earn 30 additional ECTS credits (adding a fourth semester) in order to obtain a Master’s degree.

The program is free of tuition fees for all EU residents. The state of Baden-Württemberg has introduced fees for international non-EU students and second-degree students. For background information and for fee exemption options, please refer to this link.

Applicants must be fluent in English.

Foreign and German applicants need to demonstrate their knowlegde of the English language with one of the following certificates:

  • TOEFL ibt: 80 or
  • TOEFL pbt: 550 or
  • IELTS: 6.0 (overall band) or
  • Cambridge: CAE, CPE or BEC Higher or
  • TOEIC: 700 or
  • UniCert III Certificate or
  • German HZB /z.B. Abiturzeugnis, Fachhochshulreife) listing English as a subject taken or
  • Bachelor degree in English/America Studies or
  • Bachelor degree from an English-speaking country.

Graduates from our M.Sc. in Management and Economics have excellent career prospects, both in the private sector and in governmental and international institutions. They will be attractive candidates in particular for strategic management and leadership positions in international companies, consulting firms, banks, and insurance companies.

Due to its strong methodological focus, the M.Sc. in Management and Economics serves as an excellent foundation for pursuing an academic career. Students may study the program on a Ph.D. track, putting themselves on a fast track to a doctoral degree. Completing this track requires you to obtain 18 ECTS credits from Ph.D. track courses that take students to the frontier of academic research. Moreover, you will need to fulfill the Master thesis requirement by writing an academic paper that may serve as the starting point of your Ph.D. thesis.
