The Cluster of Excellence “HUMAN ORIGINS” at the University of Tübingen invites applications for an
Ancient proteins technician in Ancient Biomolecule Central Laboratory
(m/f/d, E9b TV-L, 100 %)
The position should start as soon as possible and is limited until 31.12.2032 (project duration).
The ‘Human Origins: Excellence Cluster of Integrative Human Origins Studies’ is a newly started Cluster of Excellence at the University of Tübingen. It focuses on the comprehensive, bio-cultural investigation of human evolution, to be examined through the integration of diverse disciplines, diachronically and at different scales throughout the last 5 million years of human evolution.
The position is located at the Institute for Archaeological Sciences within the framework of the Ancient Biomolecule Central Laboratory of the Cluster of Excellence Human Origins. A sub-unit of this Central Laboratory generates biochemical, isotopic and paleoproteomic data from archaeological materials, including human and animal remains. Our research focuses on prehistoric human populations, the evolution of animals, and the change in ecosystems through time. For the analysis of ancient proteins, we use modern techniques of stable isotope biogeochemistry including single-compound analysis, as well as paleoproteomics. Applicants for this position should have a strong interest in questions from the fields of human evolution and archaeological sciences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sampling of archaeological materials in both field and laboratory settings.
- Standard techniques of biogeochemical analyses.
- Preparation of samples for isotopic and paleoproteomic analysis.
- Laboratory management and support in research projects.
- Support in organizational activities of the Central Laboratory sub-units.
Requirement Profile:
- Completed training as a biological technical assistant or comparable training, experience, or knowledge (e.g. Master’s degree in a relevant research discipline).
- Experience with managing projects from the field to the laboratory phase is desired.
- We are looking for highly motivated applicants who share our enthusiasm for research and science, enjoy tackling new tasks and want to become part of our international team. In this context, a high command of English is essential.
