The High Performance und Cloud Computing Division at the IT Center (ZDV) of the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen seeks to fill one project positions at the earliest possible date for

Scientific Staff/ Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in (m/w/d, bis zu E 13 TV-L, 100%)

The University of Tübingen is a central partner within bwHPC providing an infrastructure for academic high performance computation, along with the Universities of Heidelberg, Mannheim, Freiburg, Konstanz, Hohenheim, Esslingen, Stuttgart and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Hosting the bwForCluster BinAC, the University of Tübingen offers access to powerful HPC resources and support with data intensive computing. Through the competence centres for bioinformatics, medical informatics, pharmacy, astrophysics and geosciences users from corresponding research fields are directly supported.

As part of the bwHPC team you will be working on:

  • Conception, procurement and operation of the hardware infrastructure
  • Integration and operation of compute resources
  • Integration and operation of storage resources (Lustre, BeeGFS)
  • Integration and operation of network components
  • Authentication and authorization
  • Support and training of bwHPC users
  • Handling of sensible research data
  • Close collaboration with the project partners and the scientific community
  • Active support for the broad user community for application and technical questions

We expect from you:

  • A scientific higher education degree (master, diploma or comparable) in bioinformatics, medical informatics, pharmacy, astrophysics, geosciences, computer science or a related field
  • Experience with the administration of Linux-based HPC environments
  • Experience with the administration of complex ethernet (Layer-2, Layer-3, VLAN) and Infiniband networks

The following competences are considered to be beneficial:

  • Expertise in scientific programming
  • Provisioning and automation (Ansible, Kickstart, xcat, TrinityX)
  • Virtualisation technologies (Proxmox, RHEV/ovirt/OpenShift)
  • Experience with storage systems (Lustre, BeeGFS, Ceph)
  • Hands-on experience with procurements, warranty processing and maintain a complex hardware environment
  • Experience with information security management systems, ideally including certification processes (ISO 27001)
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana or Zabbix
  • Team oriented but self-reliant working habits
  • Professional interaction with heterogenous user groups
  • High motivation, flexibility and team spirit
  • Highly proficient in both spoken and written English
  • Experience with multidisciplinary scientific working habits
