The University of Tübingen and Tübingen University Hospital invite applications for a position at the Tübingen Center for Mental Health, Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, as a Postdoc in Machine learning, Neuroimaging and Psychiatry.

Postdoc in Machine Learning and Neuroimaging (f/m/d, 100%, TV-L 13)

The Postdoc will be part of the Laboratory for Mental Health Mapping (PI: Thomas Wolfers; https://mhm-lab.github.io) and will analyse large-scale multimodal neuroimaging, electrophysiological, genetic, clinical, and behavioural data using machine learning techniques. Normative modelling type of approaches will be further developed and applied to various data modalities. The candidate will develop novel techniques using deep learning, autoencoders and other machine learning approaches. She/he will be embedded into an international team working on such approaches and gets the opportunity to visit international collaborators.

Required qualifications:

  • A completed or nearly completed PhD in neuroscience, computer science, physics or a related discipline and a strong interest in neuroscience and psychiatry research
  • Excellent skills in data analysis / multivariate statistics / machine learning with proficiency in Python and ideally other programming languages.
  • Profound scientific writing skills and scientific rigor
  • Good team spirit and collaborative personality
  • Ambitious and highly motivated for pursuing a career in science
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Desirable specific expertise:

  • Expertise with large-scale brain imaging analysis and/or electrophysiological analyses
  • Expertise with Deep Learning on medical images
  • Expertise with high performance cluster / cloud computing frameworks
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research and working in collaborative teams

We offer: A 3 to 5 years contract with possibility for extension. Flexible start date (e.g., if you are close to finishing your PhD). Possibility for research stays abroad with core collaborators
