Project Description

Photocurrent generation from photon absorption to electron collection involves various physical processes and reflects the whole life of excited charge carriers. With the development of ultrafast optics, the ultrafast time-resolved photocurrent (TRPC) technique combined the pump-probe excitation configuration with photocurrent collection in the micro area demonstrates sub-picosecond time resolution, making it indispensable for the investigation of ultrafast carrier dynamics and design of high-performance optoelectronic devices.

Based on the TRPC technique, my research focuses on the design of two-dimensional (2D) material heterostructures and the investigation of their ultrafast photocurrent dynamics from different mechanisms, for instance, photovoltaic effect, photothermoelectric effect, and bulk photovoltaic effect. By understanding the ultrafast charge carrier drift, transfer, and collection processes, I want to realize 2D photodetectors with fast response time.
