Erasmus Mundus Master - Crossways in Cultural Narratives

The Erasmus Mundus Master Crossways in Cultural Narratives is a two-year program in comparative literature and inter-media studies, accessible to both European and non-European students. Selected and supported by the European Commission, the consortium offers EU scholarships, mobility allowances and other advantages.

The program is centrally administered by the University of Perpignan and has as its participants the following universities: Université de Perpignan-Via Domitia, France; Università degli studi di Bergamo, Italia; Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain; Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal; , Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland; University of Saint Andrews, United Kingdom; University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, University of Guelph, Canada. Associated Universities: Universidad Nacional de Entre Rios, Argentina and Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México.

Information for students who come to Tübingen without a grant: The University of Tübingen offers to its non-scholarship students a one-time "mobility package" designed to facilitate arrival/transition/setting up house/buying books and study materials, etc. in the amount of 1500 Euro for partner country students and 1000 Euro for progamme country students. The "mobility package" can be applied for upon arrival and registration at the University of Tübingen and will be paid by the end of the semester in question.

Term Times in Tübingen

Academic Terms in Tübingen run roughly from mid-April to the End of July (summer term) and from mid-October to the middle of February (winter term). For concrete term times, please consult our term time overview.

Course-Catalouge

Please visit our online course catalogue "Campus" here. You can select courses broadly from the field of English and American Literature (“Anglistik”) and from the other national literature programs on offer. All classes in the English Department are taught in English, all other classes in German. In cases where this is possible and useful, you may also select courses from other disciplines.

Once you have chosen your prospective classes, please contact Prof. Dr. Ingrid Hotz-Davies (ingrid.hotz-davies[at]uni-tuebingen.de), who will support you with the enrollment process.

Structure and Courses

As a student in the Erasmus Mundus Crossway programme, you need to generally complete 30 ECTS per semester and 120 ECTS at the end of the two-year programme to attain the Master degrees. The following is a general guide-line: you are certainly invited to pursue your own interests.

 

  • In the first semester, you should focus your studies on theoretical approaches and research methods. Another part of your first semester should be directed towards the acquisition or development of your third language (“subtext”). Thus, you need 20 ECTS for courses and about 10 ECTS for one language course.

  • In the second semester, you should devote your studies on literatures and the arts with a focus on the interactions between different textual and artistic practices (“texts”). Thus, during this semester you need 20 ECTS for classes. Two options are possible for the missing 10 ECTS: 1- to take an internship: 5 ECTS for internship and 5 ECTS for the dissertation report; 2-no internship: 10 ECTS for the dissertation report.

  • In your third semester, you should direct your focus towards wider questions regarding the interdependencies of the arts and other aspects of society such as history, culture, politics, language (“context”).  Thus, during this semester you need 20 ECTS for courses, and 10 ECTS for the progress report.

  • In your fourth semester, you should mainly concentrate on writing your final dissertation. You may choose course(s) from the general part of content-oriented seminars or attend a "colloquium" designed specifically for MA students in their thesis phase. During this semester, you need 10 ECTS for courses and 20 ECTS for the final dissertation.

Accommodation

Due to a relative shortage of housing in Tübingen, it is necessary to look for accommodation as early as possible. Try to secure a room or an apartment before you arrive here.

Language Classes

You can learn German at Tübingen through the German as a foreign language program. The program's courses take place during the semester, so for the summer turn from April to July and for the winter turn from October to February, and they also offer Summer Schools and shorter prep classes (for more information visit the institute's website).
