MAPIR Keynote: "Is Feminist Foreign Policy just another Label? - How to Realize a Gender-Just Peace"

Dr habil Simone Wisotzki, Peace Research Institute Frankfurt

A growing number of countries have adopted a feminist foreign policy, including Germany. This policy change found its precursors in, for example, the Women, Peace and Security (WPS-)Agenda. The central question remains how these norms can become politically  relevant and how they can be implemented in conflict regions. What  does it mean to realize a gender-just peace? Feminist peace research remains critical regarding such norms and new political initiatives. The lecture looks at the different forms of these criticisms and also concentrates on actual resistance and gender backlash feminist activism faces at the international, national and local level.

Dr habil Simone Wisotzki is a senior researcher at the “International Security” research department of the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF). She conducts research on humanitarian arms control (landmines, cluster munitions, small arms and light weapons), arms exports, and gender perspectives in peace and conflict research.
