Svenja Schray

Svenja Schray is a Master's student of Pre- and Early History at the University of Tübingen. In 2018, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in historical sciences. She gained experience in archaeological fieldwork during excavations at various sites in France and Germany. The sponsored master's thesis "Die paläolithische Nutzung der Grotte des Teux-Blancs (Saint-Denis-de-Vaux, Saône-et-Loire, France)" is supervised by Prof. Dr. Harald Floss. The thesis aims to reconstruct the history of the site's occupation based on the analysis of old excavated inventories in addition to finds from a newly conducted excavation of the back-dirt sediments. The back-dirt excavation at the Teux-Blancs cave was carried out by the working group led by Floss in 2018 and 2019. Their results are presented as part of the thesis. The focus of the thesis is on the Magdalenian occupation of the site. This phase of the Late Palaeolithic could not be documented in the area so far. Therefore, the reconstruction and contextualisation of the site can make an important contribution to the understanding of the Magdalenian Eastern France.
