PhD student (f/m/d)

Research Field: Oxygen isotope signatures of plant and soil organic matter

Duration: 3 years

Starting date: 01.06.2024

Project: The successful applicant will develop a method to analyze oxygen (O) isotope ratios of bulk organic matter and specific organic compounds in plant and soil. The project comprises a field campaign in Sweden and the newly developed method will be applied to the collected soil and plant samples. The presentation of the results at national and international conferences and publication in peer-reviewed international journals is expected.

Your profile: We are looking for a dynamic, serious, and motivated researcher with a Master degree in Geoecology, Geochemistry, Environmental/Organic Chemistry, Geoscience, Physical Geography, Landscape Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Agricultural Sciences, Biology, or related disciplines. The successful candidate should have extended knowledge of biogeochemical processes in ecosystems with a particular focus on stable isotopes and laboratory experience in wet chemistry. In addition, the candidate should have good communication skills in order to work in a highly collaborative and international environment, as well as a very good command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of German is appreciated but is not a requirement.

Our institute is located in the city centre of Tübingen and can be easily reached with public transport or bike. Part of the research will be conducted at the KIT (Karlsruhe) in the group of Prof. Wolfgang Wilcke.
