The paper “#InviteMe: Can social media information reduce discrimination? Evidence from a field experiment” (Raphael Moritz, Christian Manger & Kerstin Pull) has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization (DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jebo.2023.07.032).
The paper presents the results of a field experiment investigating whether social media information can mitigate ethnic discrimination in a two-sided market with asymmetric information. Using social media profiles and applying to shared housing ads, the research finds that sharing non-stereotypical information on applicants with Turkish-sounding names significantly reduces discrimination, nearly eliminating racial bias, suggesting the effectiveness of such information in reducing ethnic discrimination.

Das Papier „#InviteMe: Can social media information reduce discrimination? Evidence from a field experiment“ (Raphael Moritz, Christian Manger & Kerstin Pull) ist zur Veröffentlichung im Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization angenommen worden (DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jebo.2023.07.032).
Das Papier beschreibt die Ergebnisse eines Feldexperiments, welches untersucht, ob Informationen aus sozialen Medien ethnische Diskriminierung in einem Markt mit asymmetrischer Information verringern können. Bei der Verwendung von Social-Media-Profilen bei der Bewerbung auf freie WG-Zimmer zeigt sich, dass die Weitergabe nicht-stereotypischer Informationen von BewerberInnen mit türkisch klingenden Namen Diskriminierung nicht nur deutlich verringert, sondern nahezu komplett auflöst, was auf die Wirksamkeit solcher Informationen bei der Verringerung ethnischer Diskriminierung hindeutet.
