Tübingen-South Africa Program 2007

Visit at DaimlerChrysler (16/01/07)

Everynight before I go to sleep I always make sure that my alarm is set
but in the morning when it’s time to wake-up, I switch off the alarm to get
some more sleep.
On the 16-01-2007 things changed completely and what was surprising was
that I woke-up before my alarm snoozed. I was so shocked about this experience
and I started asking myself questions such as what's happening? The
response I got was the Mercedes Benz Museum.
During this day we went and visited one of the top brands in the
world, Mercedes Benz. We were invited to the Mercedes Benz museum which is
situated in Stuttgart.
It was very cold and dark when we left Tübingen at 07:45am. We arrived at
our destination at 09:00am and it was extremely cold and windy but that did
not stop us. We all went to the entrance and we got our entrance tickets and
tour guides to go about the museum.

The interesting part began as all took different directions inside the
museum to see what interested them. I firstly went to the history because I
have a theory that says "to be able to understand something, you have
to know where it all began".
The museum it divided into various galleries of collections. Galleries
which I found interesting were the gallery of celebrities, gallery of
carriers and gallery of helpers. Inside gallery of celebrities, there are
collections of cars which were driven by well known celebrities such as
Princess Diana. Inside gallery of helpers there are cleaning services
trucks, buses etc. which are to enhance and emphasize the safety and
reliability of the brand.
Inside the museum there are hundred and sixty cars and technologies are
progressively optimized, recombined and added to the products. There are
also formula 1 racing cars and they add more adventure to the museum.
Visiting the museum was a dream come true for most of us as we were able
to touch all the collections in the museum. DaimlerChrysler has managed
again to fulfil South African's dreams by inviting us to the museum. I like
to thank them especially DCSA for sponsoring our travelling and health
insurance and also for giving us this opportunity. This will be a
memorable trip for all of us.

As a fan of Mercedes Benz vehicles, the DaimlerChrysler factory tour was a definite highlight for me. It is not often that one gets the opportunity to experience a guided tour through one of the busiest and largest car production plants in Europe.

While being taken through the paces of the entire process of producing a Mercedes Benz vehicle, it became apparent why the Mercedes Benz emblem has become a symbol of not only luxury and class, but of superior levels of quality as well.

An informational video was shown, which served the purpose of providing an overview of the various steps of production. We then got the chance to see, first-hand, exactly how meticulously a Merc is produced. We were able to see the different production lines and had the privilege of being guided by a knowledgeable DaimlerChrysler employee who could answer even or most obscure questions. We learnt of the differences between the various models of Mercedes Benzes and witnessed that although the levels of luxury differ from one model to another, absolutely no compromises are made on quality eminence.

On the whole, the experience was incredible, and even though I did not leave with my very own S-Class Mercedes Benz, just knowing that I was an onlooker while somebody else’s Mercedes Benz was being produced granted me enough satisfaction!
