Tübingen-South Africa Program 2007

Reception with Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Stefanie Würth (18/01/2007)

Rector’s Reception at Neue Aula

It was the 19th of January and a warm evening by Germany’s standards. We were headed for the Rector’s reception at “Neue Aula” and there was a buzz of excitement as this was an auspicious occasion and many dignitaries were in attendance. We were dressed in our various cultural costumes and as always, we attracted a great deal of attention as our costumes were vibrant, diverse and of course fabulous.

We were outfitted in the Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Venda, Indian, Muslim and Afrikaner traditions and some had a more modern take on cultural attire. We are renowned for our singing and we did not disappoint as our performance included ‘O mein lieber Augustin’ (along with the Afrikaans and Zulu renditions), ‘Sponono’, ‘Daar kom die Alibama’, ‘South Africa we love you’ and our National Anthem – we sang our hearts out. A good evening was had by all.

Unfortunately, the Rector Professor Engler, Herr Kammerlohr and Frau Hebrank, were unable to attend. We wish to thank them and the following people and institutions for their continued support of this wonderful South African programme. We are indebted to you for affording us the opportunity to experience the beautiful university town that is Tübingen and learn about German culture, politics, economics and much, much more.
