Dr. Amina Nawaz is a researcher in Islamic history, historiography, and mysticism. She completed her PhD in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge in 2016 with a doctoral dissertation which examined the sixteenth century devotional writings of Morisco communities in Spain. Her research interests also include projects related to developing materials for teaching Islam (both digital and print), practical and pastoral theology and ‘home’ and ‘belonging’ narratives within Muslim communities both historically and in contemporary contexts.
During her time at the ZITh, Dr. Nawaz researched and taught in the fields of Sira (Prophetic Biography), Travel and Travel Writing, and Interreligious studies of the Medieval and Early Modern Mediterranean. Further, she served on several committees and was a co-investigator in “Exploring the Feminine in Islam” funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) (2019).
