The first German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development was held in Tübingen, Germany in 2003. Since then, it has been taking place in both countries alternately every other year. The aim of the Symposium is to offer a platform for inter- and transdisciplinary exchange and debates among German and Brazilian researchers in order to strengthen the bilateral cooperation connecting innovation and sustainable development.
On the German side, leading universities from Baden-Württemberg which have connections with Brazil – such as the University of Hohenheim, University of Freiburg, University of Stuttgart, and the University of Heidelberg – hosted former editions of the Symposium. In Brazil, former hosts of the Symposium have been UFSM (Santa Maria) / UNISC (Santa Cruz do Sul), UFPR (Curitiba), UFOPA (Santarém), PUCRS (Porto Alegre) and UFF (Niterói).
The 11th German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development, hosted by the University of Tübingen in collaboration with the University of Hohenheim and Leuphana University of Lünenburg, offers the opportunity for 200 participants to integrate knowledge and experience.
The theme of this edition will be "Towards a Resilient and Safe Future". In this event, the focus is particularly on issues of resilience, value creation, food security and equitable access to water.
