Main areas of research:

  • English as a lingua franca
  • Pragmatics and rhetoric
  • E-learning, blended learning, and constructivist approaches to teaching (find more details in my Teaching Portfolio)

I have studied rhetoric and English linguistics at Universität Tübingen, where I am currently working on my dissertation with the topic "Monitoring success in English as a lingua franca". My research is empirically based on data from the TELF corpus and database. My responsibilities include maintaining and developing the TELF web applications and teaching the proseminar "English pragmatics", as well as part of the lecture "Introduction to Linguistics", in the English department. I have also been involved in several EU Lifelong Learning projects, such as PELLIC and Backbone.

I previously worked as a sessional lecturer at the University of British Columbia, and currently hold a part time position as a research assistant at the Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften ZHAW.
