Before arrival
Foreign students should plan their stay in Tübingen well in advance and need to consider:
- Nomination by the home university and application at the university of Tübingen. Students need to be nominated first before they can apply in Tübingen.
- Language skills (German and English in particular)
- Visa for entry and study permit
- Flat hunting in Tübingen
- Health insurance
- Selection of courses and Learning Agreement (for Erasmus exchange students)
Students should use the Learning Agreement form of their home university. Ideally, the " Before the Mobility" section should be completed after the official course catalogue of the university of Tübingen for the relevant semester is online. If the home university asks the section to be completed earlier, then changes can be made after the registration for the courses. However, during the planning stage students should clarify with their home coordinator which type of courses can be recognized for their course of studies at the home institute.
On the website of the International Office students will find further information and links on all the above-mentioned topics. Please read this carefully!
After arrival
Prior to the official beginning of term, numerous welcome events and orientation meetings take place around the university. Make use of this opportunity!
First steps upon arrival:
- Finding accommodation
- Confirming your arrival with Ms Hahne (see contact box on the right)
- Matriculation
- Registration for courses
Detailed information and links on all above-mentioned topics are published on the website "Arrival in Tübingen".
Before departure
At the end of your stay in Tübingen and prior to your departure you should take care of:
- Receipt of your Transcript of Records

Students can either submit these "Scheine" personally to the person who is responsible for issuing your transcript or the lecturer sends the the "Schein" there directly. - Please complete the application for termination of enrollment and submit it personally at the Student Administration Office.
- Deregister with the municipal office (Bürgeramt).
Students will find all information explained in great detail and links on the website for exchange students "Departure from Tübingen".
