Coronavírus e a vulnerabilidade do sistema hospitalar brasileiro

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Diogo Ferraz

This seminar presents the COVID-Index indicator to analyze how the hospital structure has responded to the new coronavirus pandemic in Brazilian micro-regions. The study found that hospital structures in the poorest micro-regions were the most vulnerable, although the peak of COVID-19 occurred in the richest micro-regions (São Paulo). While the states of Southeast Brazil could relocate equipment or patients between their regions, this dynamic is not possible in less developed regions (Brazilian Amazon).

Diogo Ferraz is an Economist, PhD in Engineering from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a collaborating researcher at the University of Hohenheim. Currently, he works as a Professor in the Department of Economics and in the Graduate Program in Applied Economics (PPEA) at the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP). He also serves as Professor of the Postgraduate Program in Production Engineering at Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP). He has experience in quantitative methods, such as econometric models and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The research area lists issues on Human Development, Sustainability and Economic Complexity.
