Biography

Ulrich Rothbauer is Professor of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the University of Tübingen and Head of the Department of Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology at the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute (NMI) in Reutlingen. He received his PhD from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich in the group of Prof. Walter Neupert on the pathomechanism of a mitochondrial disease. He pioneered his work on nanobodies in 2004 as a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Prof. Heinrich Leonhardt at the LMU Biozentrum. In 2006, he became an independent GO-Bio group leader focusing on the development of nanobody-derived tools for protein purification, proteomics and cellular diagnostics. In 2008, he founded the biotech company ChromoTek, which became a leading provider of research reagents and technologies based on nano/chromobody technology. In 2011, he was appointed full professor at the University of Tübingen. Ulrich Rothbauer is editorial board member in various scientific journals (i.e. Scientific Reports, MDPI antibodies) and jury member for Exist Forschungstransfer and GO-Bio initial funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) and Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
