Post-doc project (Sep. 2025 – Sep. 2028) within the Margarete von Wrangell junior-professorship programme, financed by the MWK – Ministry of Science, Research and Arts and European Social Funds+, under the supervision of Jun.-Prof.in Dr.in Yağmur Mengilli.

The research project DYMS investigates the intersection of commons and youth cultural practices from a social-pedagogical perspective. Drawing on the concept of the commons and their concrete manifestation in so-called common spaces, the project analyses how young people and young adults use and shape these open, collectively produced spaces, and how they in turn are shaped by them. Through ethnographic observations and group discussions, the project reconstructs youth commoning practices as prefigurative forms of living together. The innovative approaches of these initiatives in dealing with space make them dynamic laboratories for the reimagining of urban and rural futures — while at the same time raising the question of what contribution a social-pedagogically informed perspective on such spaces can make to the discipline itself.

Das Forschungsprojekt DYMS untersucht die Schnittstelle zwischen Commons und jugendkulturellen Praktiken aus einer sozialpädagogischen Perspektive. Ausgehend vom Konzept der Commons und deren konkreter Ausprägung in sogenannten Common Spaces wird analysiert, wie Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene solche offenen, kollektiv hervorgebrachten Räume nutzen, gestalten und in Wechselwirkung mit ihnen stehen. Mithilfe ethnografischer Beobachtungen und Gruppendiskussionen rekonstruiert das Projekt jugendliche Commoning-Praktiken als vorwegnehmende Formen des Zusammenlebens. Die innovativen Ansätze dieser Initiativen im Umgang mit Raum machen sie zu dynamischen Laboren für die Neugestaltung urbaner und ländlicher Zukünfte — und stellen zugleich die Frage, welchen Beitrag eine sozialpädagogisch informierte Perspektive auf solche Räume für die Disziplin selbst leisten kann.
