Key elements to understand the Phoenician metropolitan ceramic repertoire.
Many times, connections between colonial and metropolitan Phoenician ceramics are not as straight forward as they should be. This situation could possibly be explained by the frequent misunderstanding of the sequential nature of the metropolitan repertoire as well as the circumstances that affected its evolution and its chronology.
Therefore, based on first hand evidence, especially the ceramic register of Lebanese sites such as al-Bass (Tyre) and Beirut, the aim of this speech would be to analyze the nature of the metropolitan Phoenician ceramic repertoire. The focus will be centered on those key typological, sequential and chronological aspects, which may help to understand the character of the Phoenician ceramics recovered in colonial contexts.
