Jörg Petrasch is Senior Lecturer in Archaeology (Pre- and Protohistory) at the University of Tübingen. He studied prehistoric archaeology, anthropology and geology at the Universities of Frankfurt/M. and Tübingen (MA 1984, Ph.D. 1988 for a thesis on the history of Middle Neolithic Kreisgrabenanlagen [enclosures] in Central Europe). He held a research fellowship of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and was field director at several excavations from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages in Germany. After joint projects with natural scientists on radiocarbon dating and mineralogical studies on the provenance of stone axe blades he conducts (with Eszter Bánffy, Budapest currently Frankfurt/M.) a German-Hungarian project in the Neolithic settlement area of Fajsz, Southern Hungary. His research interests encompass the Neolithic and Copper Age (7. - 3. millennium BC) of Central Europe and the adjacent areas with particular emphasis on the cultural history. His special interests are the archaeology of Culture, religion and society as well as settlement archaeology, the origin of warfare and ceramic studies.
