This research project, led by Dr. Yefremov, explores China's strategic approach to the Russian-Ukrainian war, focusing on Beijing's official stance of neutrality and the broader implications of the conflict for China's foreign policy. The study traces a detailed timeline of China's actions and statements throughout the war, offering insights into the pragmatic calculus behind China's behavior. Dr. Yefremov analyzes how China perceives the Russian-Ukrainian war as a "vertical-type" conflict, a model that frames the dynamics and potential resolution of the conflict in hierarchical terms. By using this framework, the research delves into China's potential role in peace negotiations and its contributions to shaping the international order.
