Interdisciplinary Centre for Global South Studies

Doctoral Consortium Global South

The Doctoral Consortium Global South is a collaboration of researchers and research mentors from the University of Tübingen, the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg), the University of Pretoria, the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (Dakar), and the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny (Abidjan). The collaboration aims to provide a framework for ongoing research training conducted on a cross-institutional basis in the area of interdisciplinary Global South humanities. The initiative builds on excellent collaborative research undertaken by the DAAD-funded TRN “Literary Cultures of the Global South”/“Futures Under Construction in the Global South” and the MWK-funded project “Urban subjectivities in Subsaharan Africa”. The consortium seeks to provide a platform for encouraging collaborative doctoral training. Its goals are:

  1. Fostering of an ongoing research dialogue and research community so as to sustain throughput and thus enhance the number of doctoral graduates
  2. Enhanced internationalization of doctoral training via international seminars and on-site exchanges, and where appropriate, award of joint/dual doctorates
  3. Enhanced provision of funding to support doctoral training via third-party grant capture

The Consortium will principally cater for doctoral students, but may also include selected MA students who wish to “fast-track” towards doctoral study.
