Prof. Dr. Valeria Merlo

I am professor of economics at the University of Tübingen and CESifo Research Fellow. I received my undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Buenos Aires and my Master and PhD in economics from the LMU Munich. I joined the Department of Economics at Tübingen as a full professor in 2016. Before that, I was a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich.

I am Co-Editor of the German Economic Review and member of the International Economics and Public Economics Committees of the German Economic Association.

Together with colleagues from the School of Business and Economics, I founded the Research School of International Taxation at the University of Tübingen.

My research and teaching fields are international economics, international taxation, multinational firm behavior and applied econometrics. I study how economic policy, in particular taxation and international agreements, affects the economic incentives of firms and individuals. Understanding how financial, investment and location decisions are shaped by countries' unilateral or coordinated policy measures is essential to assess the effect of those policies on the global allocation of different dimensions of economic activity.
