If you would like us to write you a letter of recommendation please download and open the following application form with Adobe Reader. If you have completed the application form, please send your request via e-mail to economicsspam prevention@wiwi.uni-tuebingen.de.

Your e-mail should include the application form as well as:

• An up-to-date transcript
• A copy of your CV
• An official statement of your grade point average (GPA) as well as a ranking provided by the examination office
• A letter of motivation (for scholarship applications only)
• A reference form (if any exists) with personal data already filled in

Important:

• Incomplete applications will be returned or ignored!
• The edition of a letter of recommendation may require some time, therefore please apply for it at least four weeks in advance of the respective deadline for your application(s)
• If you need letters of recommendation for more than one institution, please make sure that you apply for them at the same time (separate applications for letters of recommendation may be ignored).

If you need the standardized "Letter of Recommendation" for the International Office (Dezernat für Internationale Angelegenheiten) for a semester or year abroad, please join this ILIAS module and follow the instructions there!

Studying at a foreign university is a highly valuable experience. If planned appropriately your stay abroad should also count for the completion of your B.Sc. or M.Sc. home degree in Tübingen. An essential issue in this regard is whether, or to what extent, the credits earned abroad can be transferred to your home degree.

We ask for your understanding that our chair cannot offer individual counseling on your exchange year. The following guidelines should enable you to structure your studies abroad in a meaningful way. (Please compare also to the guidelines of the examination office)

Accreditation rules

• We handle credit transfers only for courses in the field of “International Economics”. Please note that courses pertaining to the fields of “International Finance” should be handed in for credit transfer at the department of International Macroeconomics and Finance (Prof. Müller). There are two types of credit transfers. A foreign course can be accepted as a substitute for a certain course offered here at Tübingen University if both course syllabi are very similar. This implies that no further ECTS may be earned by attending the home degree course. Alternatively, a course taken abroad may be accepted as a complement for local offerings. This does not entail any restrictions regarding the credits that you may earn on home degree courses.
• Most courses and seminars at Tübingen University yield 3, 6 or 9 ECTS points. Depending on the level, workload, content and exam type of your foreign course, we may accredit only a part of the ECTS points earned abroad. However, in some cases it is possible to combine two courses from abroad to get full amount of ECTS points.

Before going abroad

• Is it a Master's or a Bachelor's course? You should aim for courses offered for the third year of a Bachelor's program or higher (4th year or Master's course). Master's students must aim for Master's courses.
• What is the entire length of the course? Check the weekly hours and then add up the number of weeks taught. The overall contact hours of your course must come close to those of a similar course at Tübingen University.
• What is the content of the course, and what is the reading list? Check the Syllabus. This can give you an indication of whether this course is relevant for your studies.
• What kind of examination is required to complete the course? Compare this to the examination for your home courses.

After returning home

In order to get a credit accreditation you need the respective (yellow) accreditation form handed out by the examination office. Once you obtained this form please contact: economicsspam prevention@wiwi.uni-tuebingen.de. Your e-mail should include copies of the following documents:

• course syllabus
• reading list
• your seminar papers (if any)
• your grade transcripts

In case the original material is not in German or English, please provide summaries in English or German (not required for term papers, exercise sheets etc.).

Welcome at the Chair of International Economics. Please find here some general recommendations if you are interested in attending one of our courses:

• Please note that in order to attend one of our lectures or practice courses you do not have to register at our chair. Just show up in the respective course.
• Please note however that you have to apply separately at the examination office in order to get admission to the final examinations (deadlines can be found here).
• Please make sure that you are still in Tübingen when the examinations to our courses take place (examination dates can be found here).
• Please also take into account that our courses might differ in various aspects from the courses at your home university. To make sure that our courses fit your needs we recommend you to test several courses at the University of Tübingen before deciding on the final set of courses that you whish to attend. In particular if your scholarship requires you to pass a minimum number of courses while staying abroad, make sure that you attend enough courses such that even if you fail single courses you do not lose your scholarship.
