P2: Figurationen der Inspiration, Autorisierung und Auratisierung in der englischen Literatur
Das Teilprojekt 2 der Forschungsgruppe "De/Sakralisierung von Texten" (FOR 2828) untersucht Strategien und Verfahren der Sakralisierung und Desakralisierung in der englischen Literatur, die auf die religiöse Denkfigur der Inspiration rekurrieren und sich weiterer Verfahren der (Selbst-)Autorisierung bedienen, etwa durch auratisierende Sprachformen. Diese Sakralisierung wird in ihrer Wechselwirkung mit Prozessen der Desakralisierung untersucht, also der Infragestellung göttlicher Urheberschaft im Zusammenhang menschlicher Textproduktion. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt hierbei der frühen Neuzeit, in der deutliche literarische Sakralisierungsprozesse festzustellen sind. Diese vollziehen sich trotz (oder wegen) einer doppelten Normierung, nämlich einerseits der Beschränkung sakraler Autorität auf die Bibel und andererseits der Beschränkung der Literatur (insbesondere des Dramas) hinsichtlich der Thematisierung religiöser Stoffe und Themen.

Workshop: Processes of De/Sacralisation in Early Modern English Literature, Universität Tübingen, 16.06.2023.
The project “Figurations of Inspiration, Authorisation, and Auratisation in English Literature” is part of the research unit “De/Sacralisation in Texts” (FOR 2828) and investigates strategies and methods of sacralisation and desacralisation in English literature that refer to the religious concept of inspiration and use (further) methods of (self-)authorisation, e.g. the use of auratic language. Sacralisation will be analysed together with processes of desacralisation, i.e. the questioning of divine origin and involvement in the human production of texts. A particular emphasis will be on the Early Modern period, in which literary processes of sacralisation are prevalent. Such processes take place despite (or because of) a double constraint, namely, on the one hand, the restriction of sacred authority to the Bible, and, on the other hand, restrictions of literature (and drama in particular) concerning religious topics.
The workshop aims to explore such processes in the early modern period on the basis of concrete examples and their implications for the identification of more general strategies and methods of sacralisation and desacralisation.
