Splinter Meeting "K": Astrophysical Jets
Annual Meeting of the Astronomische Gesellschaft 2013, Tübingen, Germany
Dates:
Thursday, Sept. 26, 14:00 - 18:15
Convenors:
Matthias Stute (Institut für Astronomie und Astrophysik, Tübingen)
Christian Fendt (Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie, Heidelberg)
Abstract:
Jets are ubiquitous phenomena in many astrophysical objects on different mass and size scales. We find jets in Young Stellar Objects, Brown Dwarfs, Planetary and Proto-Planetary Nebulae, Symbiotic Stars, X-ray binaries, and Active Galactic Nuclei. Although being investigated since decades, there are still many open questions concerning the intrinsic launching process and the interaction with the ambient medium. Both questions have recently attracted new attention since their intrinsic connection with feedback processes essential for the star formation and galaxy formation. Quite a few publications on both theoretical and observational aspects considering the different classes of jet sources have been produced within the German community.
The splinter meeting aims at bringing together observers and theorists whose research is focused on propagation, formation, and launching of astrophysical jets in all classes given above. We encourage the jet community to share and discuss the most recent results.
