Le panel s’inscrit dans le cadre d’un projet financé par le Junior Host Program du Dahlem Humanities Center de la Freie Universität Berlin. Le travail envisage une étude comparée entre le Futurisme Italien en tant que mouvement d’avant-garde historique d’un côté, et, de l’autre, les imaginations africaines francophones du future (‘afro-devenirs’). L’objectif du panel est de faire une brève présentation du projet complet pour ensuite discuter, d’une part, la place de l’Afrique dans l’œuvre futuriste de F.T. Marinetti et, d’autre part, du rapport que la production romanesque des afro-devenirs pourraient entretenir avec le Futurisme. Cela peut permettre de mieux saisir les stratégies de construction du futur dans l’Afrique contemporaine. Quels rapports ces écritures entretiennent-elles avec des éléments des traditions africaines ? Quelles parallèles peuvent-ils exister avec les imaginaires du Futurisme de l’avant-garde italienne ?

Africa’s Futures. Narrative texts of Italian Futurism and of francophone ‚Afro-devenirs‘ in comparison. 
This panel is part of a research project financed by the Junior Host Program of the Dahlem Humanities Center of the Free University Berlin. It is designed as a comparative study of Italian Futurism as avantgardistic movement on the one side, and francophone African imaginations of the future (‘afro-becomings’) on the other side. The panel sets out to present the wider research project and to specify afterwards both the meaning of Africa in the futurist work of F. T. Marinetti and the relation existing between the literary production of afro-becomings writers and the Italian Futurism. The project allows to better locate strategies of how the future of contemporary Africa is constructed. How are the contemporary literary writings related to elements of African tradition? And which parallels do exist with the imaginations of Futurism of the Italian avant-garde?
