his block course, held entirely in English, provides an excellent knowledge basis for advanced research in the field of chemical gas sensors and their applications. The working principles of the most commonly used chemical sensors – electrochemical with both liquid and solid electrolytes, conductometric based on semiconducting metal oxides sensitive materials, calorimetric and gravimetric – will be explained in detail. Possible production technologies, applications and how the resulting data is most appropriately evaluated will be detailed.
Based on experience in the past we will provide, well in advance, online access to: some of the lectures and all information about the experiments; all the data to be evaluated as well as the instructions about how to do that. This will be done by sharing all of that with you in the form of recorded videos supported by PDF documents. The objective is to make sure that, when you arrive in Tübingen, you have a clear idea about the content of the block course and what we are expecting from you. On site, the content of the already provided lectures will be discussed with you in a seminar format and the rest of the lectures will be given. All experimental work will take place in presence and the respective sessions will start with a discussion based on the material you were provided in advance. The evaluation of the experimental data, again provided in advance, will take place in seminar format sessions where you will present your results, discuss them and deepen your knowledge together with your assistants. It is up to you which software you use to evaluate the data. The successful evaluation of the data is the prerequisite for getting ECTS points.
In order to register for the block course you are required to send an email to luca.voelkl(at)ipc.uni-tuebingen.de until December 31st, 2024. A registration after this date will not be accepted. As soon as the date has passed, you will get access to the recordings of selected lectures, presentations of the lab works and the, to be evaluated, data. Please see to it that you have reviewed everything thoroughly and evaluated the provided data until March 3rd 2025 where the block course will start. The exact schedule of these sessions will be communicated to you latest end of February. This is also the date at which the access to the block course materials will end. All updates will be posted here and in the ILIAS-group “PC0810 – ANM7 – Sensoren (Vorlesung)” (for Tübingen students only, direct link: https://ovidius.uni-tuebingen.de/ilias3/goto.php?target=crs_569427&client_id=pr02)
It is essential to constantly check either the website or the ILIAS-group for updates on the current organizational status.
In case you have any further questions, do not hesitate to send an email to the email address you also registered with.
