Recently, methods from Biology, Bioniformatics and Linguistics have been combined to study the history of languages. This research suggests striking paralles between phylogenetics and historical linguistics. This workshop aims to bring together researchers from related disciplines to explore further parallels.
Phylogenetics investigates the evolution of creatures and attempts to determine kinship relations at all levels of biological systematics. In historical linguistics, the evolution of language and the kinship relations within language families are of central importance. These similarities have allowed scholars to investigate language history using phylogenetic tools.
The first two days of the workshop are especially directed at PhD students. Participants will have the opportunity to present their projects and to establish contacts across different disciplines. We invite researchers from all related discipilnes to present their work.

The results of the conference "Capturing Phylogenetic Algorithms for Linguistics" in Leiden in October 2015, which inspired the organization of this event, have been published via the publishing poratl of the Tübingen University library.
